Did you know that I received a message from Santa? It said,
Every year lots and lots of kids are asking for the latest type of toys on their lists. Not only 1 but 2 or 3 or more. My elves are tired and just couldn’t keep up with all of these technological advances. They have asked if we can send a message to everyone. Asking children to pick their top 3 most favorite toys from a list that we will be sending you. And then we’ll see which one of your picks my elves are able to make as fast as they could to send to you for Christmas. The list of toys will be based on what we believe you will enjoy, because as you know we have been watching you all year long. — Love, Santa”
Well, that’s my dialogue to my boys when I hand them their lists from which they can pick their gifts from for Christmas! Then, Susie, our elf will send them the message from Santa when she arrives to visit them this year.
What do you think?
Okay, it may sound a little too far-fetched but my boys still believe in Santa so I don’t think they will suspect anything. And I know that they will appreciate having a list of “cool” toys to choose from!
It may not be for your family but to us it will be really helpful.
Let me tell you why.
We don’t have a cable television in our house so our kids doesn’t see toys advertisements. They only know what they know, which is what they have seen from visiting a toy store or from other kids. Being kids, they also tend to gravitate towards the same things. And I’m not really too thrilled to see their bedroom full of the same toys. Which will more likely end up untouched and then we’ll have to give it away. I want our kids to have a variety of fun learning toys. Maybe it’s the homeschool mom in me, I don’t know. But this is my way of guiding them in picking their toys for Christmas without making them feel like we pushed them into it.
Also, we let our kids know that things do costs money. They may still be young, but for us we feel that it is important that they understand that, so they will learn to:
- take care of their toys and other belongings,
- appreciate what they receive for gifts; and
- they don’t always ask to buy a new toy or something whenever we go to a store
Their lists will include what I have here to share with you plus a few more other things that I know they like. From their top 3 picks, we can decide which will be coming from Santa, and which ones will be from Mom and Dad. Doing this will make my shopping easier, help us stay in budget, they get some learning toys which I like and of course they get something they like! Sneaky? It’s a win-win if you asks me! (grins)
So do you have a little boy and in need of some ideas on what to get for him? I know for a fact that it’s not so easy to find that perfect toy for them. It took me a while to put together this list!
