Hello folks! Welcome to How to Homeschool your Tot series! We are back for week 8!
I realized that it’s the middle of November already (Wow! Where did the time go?!) but I hope you all had a great Halloween and have taken the moment to celebrate the Veterans of the war and remember those who have given up their lives so we can be living a better one now. I don’t know much about it since I came from another country and never learned it from school. However, as part of this country now, I realized how important it is. And as a homeschooling mom, it is my responsibility to help our children learn and understand the past that have shaped our world and lives now. I’m reminded every time how fortunate I am that I’m given the opportunity to learn along side our children.
Back to our tot school! How to homeschool your tot series started because I needed a way to keep our tiny tot busy while me and her older brothers are homeschooling in the morning.
I have recently mentioned on one of my other posts that we had a week off from school after doing 6 weeks in a row. We just really needed this break, I needed it! So that also means that we took a break from our tot school as well. During this break, we didn’t really do much because unfortunately the kids caught a bug. We still enjoyed halloween though and ate their candies! (just a little!lol!)Seriously! We traded the rest of their treats for a chance to win a scooter or a GT snow racer! Then I let the kids do whatever they felt like doing (that means video games for the boys!). Well, I can’t be the mean mom all the time (wink)! We still had our regular activities for the week, but had to skip them also. So all in all, it was a pretty mellow week for us.
A week off is nice but it can also be hard to get back into our routine after. Ugh! And since the kids were still recovering from the cold including our littlest one, this week was a little tough on all of us.
Although little lady O was curious and excited about her activities, she really wasn’t up for it. So I followed her cue and did our best to make this week a little bit smoother for everyone.
The Set Up
- a to z Pegboard set
- Pom poms + container with cut up shapes for a push through activity
- Sound Shakers
- Magnetic Number Fishing Puzzle (this link is not exactly what I have pictured here but something similar and looks more fun)
Her favorite this week were the pom poms and the pegs.
As you can see here, she immediately went to work with her pom poms. And although she was a little grumpy that time, she kept on pushing the pom poms through the holes. After she finishes, she would asked to open the container up so she can dump all the pom poms out and do it all over again.
She also enjoyed playing fishing with her magnetic number fishing game. We called out the numbers and names of the sea creatures as she fished them out.
Pushing the pegs through the holes on the alphabet board requires a little bit of work to do. She tried it just a couple times and didn’t want to do it anymore after that. So what I did was set it all up for her with the pegs already stuck on the abc boards and then let her pull it all out. She liked that better. She also liked playing with the pegs alone, usually doing an in and out activity with an empty container.
We actually all had fun playing with just the pegs. We ended up stacking the pegs up to make a “wand” and the boys proceeded to play “Harry Potter” casting spells on each other!
This was a photo of little lady O giving it her all with the “shaking”! So cute! Ok, this was the only time I got her to do that! She wasn’t too interested in shaking the sound shakers, but was more curious to open them up. And got upset when I didn’t let her.
Despite a somewhat long, challenging week for us, there were still a few moments that are worth celebrating!
