Hi there! Welcome to week 9 of How to Homeschool your Tot Series!
How to Homeschool your Tot series started out because I needed a way to keep our tiny toddler busy while her older brothers and I homeschool in the morning. There are no specific plans at the moment. I do scour the net for some ideas! Then I set up activities that I think she might enjoy, and help her learn and develop skills at the same time.
Little lady O is 16 months and these were her activities for week 9.
The Set Up
- Teachable Touchable Texture Squares
- Wedgits (this link is not exactly what we owned but similar kind)
- golf balls + a plastic pitcher
- mini craft sticks + container with a slit cut on the lid
This little girls loves in and out activities! I think all tiny tots love that kind of activity! It doesn’t matter whatever kind of manipulative you have available because to these tiny tots, it’s a chance to explore!
So naturally little lady O gravitated toward the mini craft sticks + container for her first activity.
She had fun dropping the craft sticks into the slit cut of the container one by one, then two and then…
…she decided, enough is enough! Lol! She asked for the lid to be removed and then she proceeded to grab a handful of the craft sticks and dumped it all in the container. She makes me laugh!
And then she picked another sort of in and out activity with our Teachable Touchable Texture Squares. This bag contains squares made from different type of cloth and materials for some texture learning fun. One can play matching game or feel and find or name the texture game with this toy. But we mainly used it for some fun exploration for her. She had fun pulling out the contents of the bag and then putting it back. I called out the names of some textures as she pulled them out. I also showed her that some materials are soft and smooth to the the touch and put it against my cheeks to demonstrate.
Now she thinks that’s how you play with that toy, so I caught her doing this!
We got wedgits for a present quite a while ago. And when we first got it, the boys were much younger and didn’t care much for it so I put it away. Now, I pulled it out and set it up for little lady O’s activity and she barely had a chance to play with it! This photo was one of the moment when my second son walked away from it for a few minutes! She loved exploring with it too!
Golf balls + pitcher for some pouring practice! She was a pro at this! However she wasn’t really into it so she only played with it a few times.
And that was it for our week 9 of tot school!
